Question:

Is it available for the inmate with chronical disease to obtain the therapy continuously in the prison?

Answer  :

Since Jan.1,2013,the inmates of the correction government organization have integrated into the public health system of the national insurance .Thus,the resources of the national insurance is adopted.When require the therapy oppointment inside the prison ,it will be charged NT.50 for the registration fee,plus partial payment NT.50 and the medicine fee from NT.0~NT.200 accordingly.There are doctors available for medical treatment from Monday to Friday.Including Dept.Commoncare,Dept.Medical ,Dept.Surgical ,Dept.Ophthalmology ,Dept.Psychotherapy ,Dental,Dept.Dermatology ,Dept.E-N-T ,and Dept.Infection disease.There are total of 10 depts in Taipei prison.The Taipei prison have provided the therapy continuously for the inmates with chronical disease.In case the service of the medical treatment cannot be offered,with the suggestion of the doctor the inmates will be able to transfer to another hospital outside of the prison accordingly.The inmate should bring the IC card of national insurance,deposit money ,disease diagnoses medical certifications,prescriptions,medicine bags and the complete package of the medicine for medical references.

Question:

When the inmates come to serve in the prison ,is it allowed to bring the medicine by the inmates or available to send in by the family member of the inmates?

Answer  :

According to the law of the medical ,rule No.11 mentioned:”Without the examine by doctor in prison ,the therapy will not be allowed and the prescription will also not permitted .”In order to prevent the sent in medicine is against the rule.In addition ,since the 2nd generation of the national insurance had applied ,the medicine must be supplied directly by the contract pharmacy when inmates are in the correction government organization.The inmates are allowed to apply for sending in the medicine of the chronical disease within 3 months while arrival.Other prescriptions need to be submitted within 2 weeks.The rest of the therapy will be arranged in the prison by the Sanitation and Health Section.

Question:

Is it available for the inmates to bring the syrings to correction government organization for the injection of the insulin?

Answer  :

When the inmates begin to serve in the prison ,the disease certification,prescription related medicine and the equipments of the insulin injection should be prepared beforehand.After evaluation by the doctor or Sanitation and Health Section ,it can be adopted and used continuously if it is necessary.
Since the year of 2013 ,the inmate who is qualified in national insurance will be able to apply to see the doctor in prison .Concerning the injection of insulin ,the doctor will keep providing the therapy after checking the prescription ,dosage and the disease condition of the inmate.
